Rest
We all need it!
Hey everyone and Happy Monday! I’m back to the rat race of work and all after a glorious three days off. Ok, it’s now Tuesday and I’m still trying to get this done. Me, hubs, and the children decided to enjoy the last few days of Spring Break and we spent the day in Galveston Friday. I really tried to completely unplug by not even using my phone to take pics, but I had to get a few to send to my mom. Most of my photos are on my Nikon and I haven’t transferred them yet. We had an amazing day in the aquarium, the rainforest, watching the butterflies in the garden, and just being together as a family. The Texas weather was perfect for the day as we were in the middle of a cold front that dropped us from the 80s to very pleasant temps between the 60s and 70s. Funny story time: my son loves Angry Birds and there was a 4D short so we decided to go in. When we walked in the seats were wet. Mama is always prepared for anything so I went into my bag to grab some wipes and we settled in.
I’m assuming that they sanitized the seats in between viewings…wrong! If you’ve never seen Angry Birds, the birds live on one island and the pigs live on another. Well I was blissfully unaware in this theater they want you to experience everything….including being splashed by water when the birds splash through it. Ah hell nah! So next time, I’ll be skipping that one.🤷🏽♀️
As you can see, we had a blast looking at all things “nature.” The flower from the Cannonball Tree smelled so good, at least I think it was that flower because I was not sticking my nose in it directly. We saw ducks, Komodo dragons, porcupines, bugs that made my skin crawl, and so much more.
The weekend didn’t stop in Galveston, but it took on a more restful and relaxed tone. My daughter chunked us the deuces to meet her bestie for SXSW, my son decided his PS5 was more interesting than me and dad, so the parentals were left to their own devices. We started the first season of Landman and we’re enjoying it. We made it to episode 7 I believe. This show is very interesting. Let’s say when you have knowledge of the oil business this show is very accurate in a lot of ways. Of course there is creative license, but the accuracy and the moments that actually give you clarity is both enjoyable and unsettling…especially considering what’s happening in the Middle East. Billy Bob Thornton is equal parts funny, a thug, and trying to be a good parent all while constantly putting out fires while using the f-word a lot! Trust me when I say every time he used it, it needed to be used.
Now, to the really good part. Dinner, a bottle of very good Cabernet Sauvignon, and FINALLY WATCHING SINNERS! Yes, I just watched it for the first time. I’ve avoided spoilers, limited my interactions on anything but the buzz on the movie because I wanted to enjoy it completely. Let me tell you, it was wonderfully amazing for a horror movie. The history, culture, music…everything evoked such a feeling of joy and excitement I was vibrating. That movie, in my opinion deserves every accolade they received and more! I’m still a little miffed that Ryan Coogler and the movie didn’t win. I must admit, I haven’t seen One Battle After Another, but it is on my list to watch. If you’re like me and can’t always watch adult movies because you have younger children, I tend to be late seeing a lot of movies because saying I’m going to watch once I go to bed means I’ll be asleep 15 minutes in.
I’ve also finished some reading that was chef’s kiss. One of them released today, Mayhem And The Mortal by Shanora Williams. Y’all, this book has taken over my life for 2 weeks because it was so good, I tried to slow roll through it because I didn’t want it to end. You ever read a book and just have to know what’s going to happen, but you don’t want it to end too quickly…I edged the hell out of this book and it was CLIMACTIC! You have to read this if you’re a fan of amazing world-building, fantasy, an epic quest, enemies to lovers, slow burn that will leave you wanting more! Look at this beautiful limited first print. I received an early copy from Red Tower Books, but I want this beautiful first edition!
I think that’s it for now. Oh wait, we lost an ICON this morning, Kiki Shepard - co-host of Showtime at the Apollo passed away this morning from a medical emergency. Kiki was unforgettable as co-host and she was a Texas girl!🫶🏽 Rest in Power Queen! So we’re going to salute her today for Women’s History Month and we’re sending Shanora Williams all the good energy for an amazing and successful release! Have a great week y’all! Be kind, be productive, and don’t let anyone play in your face!💋
